2015年2月12日に北海道・尻別岳北東斜面で発生した雪崩事故について、事故当事者に聞き取り調査を行いましたので、その概略をお知らせ致します。数値等は速報値ですので、この後、変更される可能性もあります。An avalanche accident occurred at Shiribetsu-dake, Hokkaido Japan on February 12th, 2015. We report the accident briefly. The investigation was based on an interview with the person involved in the accident, between August and September, 2015. 概要 Synopsis：
３人の山スキーヤーは、12日の午前、尻別岳の西面を最初に滑走した。数日間の継続的な風によって積雪表面は良く締まっており、不安定性を示す兆候はみられなかった。その後、北側斜面に移動し、故意に雪庇を崩落させたり、複数回のスキーカットを行ったりしたが、不安定性を示す結果は得られなかった。
　最初にスキーヤー１が滑走し、立木のある安全と思われる場所で待機した。次にスキーヤー２が、スキーヤー１と同じ区域を滑走し始めた時に、雪崩が誘発された。積雪の破壊はスキーヤー１が待機していた場所まで伝播。スキーヤー２は、滑走によって雪崩から逃れることができたが、スキーヤー１は滑走で逃げようとしたものの、十分なスピードを得られず、雪崩に巻き込まれた。スキーヤー１は、障害物のない開けた雪崩走路を200〜300 m流された。停止時には、座るような姿勢で部分埋没しており、仲間から見える状態であった。この際、監視役を務めていたスキーヤー３は、尾根付近の安全な箇所でスキーヤー１と２の行動を確認していた。スキーヤー１は仲間により救助されたが、背中の痛みを訴えていたので地元のガイドグループの手助けにより搬送された。
　地元のガイドグループも数時間前に事故現場と類似した地形において雪崩を誘発していた（誰も巻き込まれなかった）が、その雪崩は事故グループがアクセスしたルートからは見えない場所であった。このガイドグループは、現場周辺で数日前に局所的に表面霜が形成されているのを観察していたが、雪崩破断面における確認は行われていないため、この表面霜が雪崩の発生に関連しているかどうかは不明である。
　　
Three backcountry skiers were skiing on the west side of the Shiribetsu-dake for the first half of the day, where conditions were fairly firm from sustained winds in the preceding days. No instabilities were observed. They then went to the north side, no instabilities were observed, after testing a cornice drop on the slope and some ski cuts in safe terrain.
　　Skier 1 skied down and went towards what looked to be a safe area near some trees. Skier 2 then began skiing along the same area that the first skier skied and triggered the avalanche, which propagated over to where skier 1 was standing below. Skier 2 skied out of the slope without being caught. Skier 1 tried to traverse but did not have enough speed to exit the path. Skier 1 was carried about 200-300 m downslope, which was an open path without any obstacles. Skier 1 ended on top of the debris with partial burying in a sitting position and was visible on surface. These process was watched by Skier 3 at the safe area near the ridge over from where the avalanche was triggered (spotting). Skier 1 was recovered by companion rescue and was evacuated by local guide's group, due to back injuries.
　　The local guide group had also triggered an avalanche a couple hours earlier, on a similar terrain feature (nobody caught). This debris was not visible from accident group's access point, unfortunately. The guided group indicated that there was some localized surface hoar on those terrain features that formed a few days earlier. However relation between the surface hoar and the avalanche is unknown, because it was not confirmed on the fracture line.
